In this week's Rewind Robert Smith presents another edition of Picture Parade. This one has a central theme as explained below. I hope that some of you will join in and use your picture identifying skills.

For many years dating back to about 1971, a magazine called the Standardbred was a very popular publication, widely read by those who wished to be kept well-informed on the happenings in the sport and business of harness racing. Each issue featured a nicely presented front cover that was often connected with a story contained within. The magazine was owned and operated by its long time editor and publisher Barbara (Waples) Lennox. Fortunately I saved a few back issues and they continue to be an invaluable source of information to this day.

The task at hand this week is to identify the person or persons pictured on each selected front cover. The routine remains the same, you choose the ones you wish to submit an answer to and send it in.

I have "borrowed" the subtitle Front Page Challenge from a long-running Canadian TV show that was popular back in the 1950's and ran for nearly 40 years. I have to admit that I did not watch it despite its popularity. I suspect I was busy doing other things back then.

Note - Most of today's pictures are from the decade of the 1980's

#1 - Can you name the driver of this fine looking trotter? (Photo by Steve Tomboso)

#2 - Here was a great performer from a highly successful stable and ownership duo. Can you not only identify the driver but the horse as well? (Photo by Steve Tomboso)

#3 - Here we have two drivers to be identified. By the head numbers it looks like a stable entry. Can you correctly identify both of these chaps? (Photo by Steve Tomboso)

#4 - Who is the winning driver in this one behind lucky no. 7? (Photo by Steve Tomboso)

#5 - The man in the sulky was once a very popular driver. To name him is the task at hand. (Photo by Brian Smiley)

#6 - Who is the fellow looking back to check on the competition? If you know, let us know. (Photo by Jeff Coady)

#7 - This fellow was a popular and successful trainer and driver for many years. Can you name him? (Photo by Steve Tomboso)

#8 - Two young drivers are shown here at Mohawk. Looks like No. 1 is the winner with No. 4 arriving second. Can you correctly identify them both? (Photo by Steve Tomboso)

#9 - A few snowflakes are included in this one. Can you identify the driver of No. 4 the race winner? The others are too obscure to include but if anyone cares to try feel free. (Photo by Steve Tomboso)

#10 - This photo appeared in a 1985 issue of the Standardbred but not on the front page but I chose to use it anyway. Can you identify the driver as he speeds toward victory in this great photo? (Windsor Raceway publicity)

Quote For The Week: "Rainbows are a sign of hope, thanks and good fortune."

Who Is It?

Who is the driver in this old photo taken many years ago at Blue Bonnets? Clue - he lived almost 60 years after this was taken in 1962.

Who Else Is It?

Can you identify this once well known horseman now departed?
